The festival, which runs from midday on the 6th July until midnight on the 14th July, celebrates the life of ‘San Fermin’, the first Bishop of Pamplona who was martyred by the Romans. The program of events, from the firing of the rocket off the balcony of the Town Hall at midday on the 6th July, right through to the candlelight parade at midnight on the 14th July, is all about fun but has strong emotional meaning to the local Basque population. The best-known event is the ‘encierro’ (Running of the Bulls) which is held each morning at 08:00 am from the 7th -14th July inclusive with a traditional bullfight option in the evening.
